Tour of Channel Island Harbor

Here's a video tour of the Channel Island Harbor Marina. This is the quietest marina we have stayed at so far. Our nights are punctuated with barking seals and days with walks on the pristine beach.

MUST WATCH: DOLPHIN FOOTAGE!!

At first we weren't too excited about today's passage, but we had calm seas and saw dolphins, whales and seals! Today was one of the best passages yet!

Roger's home-made haircut

Today we gave Roger a new haircut. Christine had a little trouble with the back, but a freshly shorn head feels good. Next time we are going to tip the hairdresser extra.

Sparky and Janet

Here is Sparky and Janet from Pacific Mariners Yacht Club. Sparky has showed us the generosity and hospitality of a true water-man.

Cat Harbor Overlook

Here's Christine contemplating the expanses of the Open Ocean.

Night Lights

Here is a picture of Breeze dressed up for a night out on the town.

Video of Cat Harbor

This is a video of Cat Harbor; this harbor is a 15 minute walk from where we moored at Catalina Island. This is one of the most protected natural harbors in the pacific.

Out in the Ocean

Here we are, cavorting on the boat on our second passage to Catalina. Notice that we're not driving; our new crew member, Ollie, is driving the boat for us. We only took the wheel to set the mooring. (Ollie is the name of our new auto-pilot; and he steers better than we do).

Angel's Gate

This is Angel's Gate; the end of the breakwater for the Port of LA. We hope to not see this lighthouse again for the foreseeable future!

Sailor Steve - The One That Gets Out

Here's Steve. We followed Steve on our first trip to Catalina and is one of our first true friends.

Ty the Sailor

This is Ty; he's one of the live-aboards around here that "keeps this place safe". Ty used to have a braided beard that went down to mid-belly, and he proudly displays it in a wooden case in his boat.

Diver Paul

Here's Diver Paul; he keeps our bottom clean! (of the our boat, that is) Paul is one of the most consistently happy people we know.

We've also installed a new head. Let me tell you, this is one piece of equipment you DON'T want the pleasure of changing out! It's a sh!tty job!! But we now have a glistening new throne! :)

We've been busily preparing to leave; the first item was keeping up with the engine. Though the work will never be done, we've made good headway.

Breeze under sail

Here's a video of Breeze under sail. The diesel is off and Mother Nature is supplementing our fuel bill (with the price of tax free diesel at $5.00 gallon, this is a good thing). Our fuel bill to Catalina was $50; not bad. Most power-boaters these days are spending $1,500 for the same trip.

Seals

Here's a shot of a family of seals that hangs out just inside of the breakwater. They've found a comfortable and calm buoy to sleep on. They sleep until the fishing boats come in, they then go beg for fish scraps.

Back to the hustle & bustle

While working on some boat projects, we have been lucky enough to have a few Colorado friends stop by.

This was a welcome break from the trains, planes and cranes.

We have had to extend our stay in Long Beach to finish up the boat projects but hope to be moving north very soon.
